Arijit Singh Turns the Page: Steps Away from Bollywood Playback, Eyes Independent Music Future
TVS Report, 28 Jan : Veteran singer Arijit Singh has surprised fans and the music industry by announcing his retirement from mainstream Bollywood playback singing. However, he is not stepping away from music altogether. On January 27, Singh shared a heartfelt message on social media stating that he will no longer take up new assignments as a film playback singer. He clarified that this move reflects a change in direction rather than the end of his musical journey.
In his New Year message, the 38-year-old singer expressed sincere gratitude to listeners for the immense love and support he has received throughout his career. He described his years in playback singing as a wonderful journey and said he feels deeply blessed by the connection he shares with his audience.
While confirming that he will not accept new film projects, Singh emphasised that he will continue creating music independently. He said he intends to keep learning, experimenting and composing on his own terms, driven by his lifelong passion for music. He also mentioned that he has some pending commitments, which he will complete, indicating that fans can still expect a few releases in the coming months.
The announcement comes at a time when Arijit Singh’s voice remains closely associated with some of Bollywood’s most memorable songs. His decision has triggered an emotional response from fans across social media, with many expressing surprise while extending support for his choice.
With a legacy of chart-topping hits and critical acclaim, Singh’s contribution to Indian music remains significant. Even as he steps away from film playback singing, his influence is expected to continue through his independent musical projects in this new phase of his career.
