Balen Shah Crushes KP Sharma Oli in Jhapa-5: A Landslide That Shook Nepal's Political Landscape
Kathmandu , March 7 : Balendra "Balen" Shah of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has scored a commanding victory in Jhapa Constituency-5 during Nepal's Direct Election 2082, defeating veteran leader and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli by an overwhelming margin.
Official results show Shah secured 68,348 votes, capturing an impressive 64.29 percent of the total vote share. Oli trailed far behind with just 18,734 votes, marking a stunning defeat for the CPN-UML chairman. Other candidates also finished well behind. Samir Tamang of the Shram Sanskriti Party garnered 9,233 votes, while Mandhara Chimaria of the Nepali Congress managed only 1,821 votes.
Out of 163,379 registered voters in the constituency, 106,310 exercised their right to vote, resulting in a turnout of 65.07 percent.
The Jhapa-5 result is being widely regarded as one of the most dramatic outcomes of the 2082 elections. The decisive rejection of a heavyweight national figure in favor of a rising independent voice signals a clear shift in voter sentiment toward alternative political movements in Nepal.
