Bangkok Bar Inferno Kills 27, Dozens Critical After Patrons Become Trapped Inside Burning Venue
Bangkok, July 13: At least 27 people lost their lives and dozens more were critically injured after a devastating fire ripped through a crowded bar in Thailand's capital, Bangkok, shortly before midnight, trapping patrons as they desperately tried to escape.
The blaze broke out at the popular Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok's Chatuchak district around 11:57 pm on Sunday. Within minutes, the venue was engulfed in thick smoke and flames, leaving many customers with little chance of reaching safety. Initial reports indicate that at least 63 people were taken to hospitals, including 22 who remain in critical condition.
Rescue workers said many of the victims were discovered near the bar's restrooms, suggesting they had fled there after being unable to locate a safe exit as the smoke rapidly spread throughout the building. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within a short period, but by then the interior of the establishment had been extensively damaged.
Eyewitnesses recalled that smoke was first noticed near an electrical circuit close to the stage before a sudden power outage and a loud explosion triggered panic inside the packed venue. The dense smoke quickly filled the bar, making visibility almost impossible and forcing patrons into a frantic scramble for survival.
Thailand's Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, visited the scene and expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether any safety violations contributed to the tragedy.
The disaster has once again drawn attention to fire safety standards at entertainment venues across Thailand, which has witnessed several deadly nightclub fires over the years. Investigators are expected to examine the building's emergency exits, electrical systems and compliance with safety regulations as the probe continues.
