Blind Murder Cracked in Soreng: Father Confesses to Killing Son
Soreng, May 5: In a major breakthrough, Soreng District Police have solved a blind murder case registered on May 2, 2026, under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, leading to the arrest of the victim’s father.
According to an official press release from the Office of the Superintendent of Police, the case pertains to the murder of Tika Hang Subba of Lower Thambong, Sombaria. The incident traces back to May 1, when a domestic dispute reportedly broke out between the victim and his father, Man Bahadur Subba. The argument escalated into violence, during which the accused allegedly attacked his son with a sharp-edged weapon, identified as a tawal (hatchet), resulting in fatal injuries.
The crime came to light the following morning when the deceased was discovered lying in a pool of blood inside his bedroom by his younger brother, who lives nearby.
Police officials stated that the investigation initially faced hurdles due to the absence of eyewitnesses and lack of electronic evidence. The accused also denied any involvement and withheld crucial information about the incident and the weapon.
Despite these challenges, investigators relied on circumstantial evidence and a detailed forensic examination of the crime scene. A team of experts, including fingerprint specialists, played a key role in developing leads, which led to the detention and subsequent arrest of the accused on May 2.
During sustained interrogation, the accused later confessed to the crime and disclosed the location of the weapon. The tawal used in the murder was recovered and seized following due legal procedure.
The investigation is being led by PI Sonam Topgay Bhutia, SHO of Sombaria Police Station. Police officials have credited his efforts and professional approach for solving the otherwise complex case.
Soreng District Police has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a fair and impartial investigation while pursuing justice for the victim.
