Ecuador Priest Dies After Giant Crucifix Falls During Livestreamed Mass

Guayaquil, Ecuador, October 18: A Catholic priest died after a massive wooden crucifix detached from a church wall and fell on him while he was conducting a Mass in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on Saturday evening, October 17.

Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari was leading prayers at Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro Church when the heavy crucifix suddenly crashed down from behind the altar, striking him. The horrifying incident was captured during a livestream of the religious service.

Shocked worshippers rushed to assist the priest and called for emergency help. The Archdiocese of Guayaquil subsequently confirmed his death and expressed condolences to his family, fellow clergy and parishioners.

The priest belonged to the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. The cause of the crucifix's collapse has not yet been officially established
