Kolkata, May 5: In a major development from Kolkata, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a lookout notice against senior police officer Shantanu Sinha Biswas in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation.
According to officials, the action is linked to a high-profile case involving the alleged “Sona Pappu” syndicate. The ED suspects that Biswas may attempt to leave the country, prompting the issuance of the lookout circular to prevent any possible escape.
Sources indicate that the officer had been summoned multiple times for questioning under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), but reportedly failed to appear before investigators, further intensifying the agency’s concerns.
The probe revolves around financial transactions allegedly linked to notorious criminal Biswajit Poddar, also known as “Sona Pappu,” with investigators examining a suspected money trail involving the police officer.
