From Player to National Official: Amrita Kalikotey Scripts Historic Chapter for Sikkim Kho Kho

TVS Report, 3 Feb : Sikkim has added another feather to its sporting cap as Amrita Kalikotey created history by becoming the first woman from the state to officiate at the national level in Kho Kho. She is currently serving as a Technical Official at the 35th Sub-Junior National Kho Kho Championship 2025–26, being held in Kurukshetra, Haryana, from 31 January to 4 February.

This landmark achievement marks a significant moment not only for Amrita Kalikotey but also for Sikkim’s presence in national-level sports officiating. She earned this honour after successfully clearing the All India Referee Examination conducted by the Kho Kho Federation of India on 26 March 2025 at Tinsukia, Assam, securing commendable marks. The success fulfilled her long-standing aspiration of transitioning from an accomplished player to a National Technical Official.

Congratulating her on the achievement, Melli MLA Nar Bahadur Pradhan described the moment as a matter of great pride for the Melli Constituency, particularly Lower Suntoley under Sukrabarey Suntoley GPU. He said her accomplishment has brought recognition not just to her locality but to the entire constituency and the state. He also expressed confidence that her journey would inspire young sportspersons and aspiring officials across the region.

Amrita Kalikotey began her Kho Kho journey in 2012 and has represented Sikkim at the national level more than 18 times as a player, reflecting her consistency, discipline, and passion for the sport. Adding to the historic moment, Teju Hang Limboo of Sombaria, West Sikkim, also cleared the referee examination, making them the first woman and first man from Sikkim to reach this prestigious national-level officiating milestone.
