Producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala is taking legal action against Netflix and the creators of The Great Indian Kapil Show, demanding ₹25 crore. The lawsuit alleges that the show used the well-known character Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, played by Paresh Rawal in the Hera Pheri films, without permission.

The controversy began when comedian Kiku Sharda impersonated the character on the show. Nadiadwala, who owns the rights to the character, claims this was done without his consent. He stated that Baburao is "the soul of Hera Pheri" and that its legacy, built through hard work and creativity, cannot be misused for profit. Nadiadwala added that Paresh Rawal put a lot of effort into the role and that no one has the right to exploit it.

The legal notice claims several violations, including copyright infringement and trademark infringement. Nadiadwala's team says Baburao is a registered trademark owned by his family. The notice demands the removal of the segment from Netflix and all other platforms, a written promise not to use the character again without permission, and a public apology.

According to Nadiadwala's lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, the unauthorized use of the character is "blatant theft for commercial gain." She stated that they will use the full extent of the law to protect their rights and prevent creative legacies from being treated as "a free commodity." This legal action comes as the show is set to air its final episode.
