Main reasons to celebrate Bhaitika:

1. Mythological Story (Story of Yamaraj and Yamuna)
Bhaitika's most important legend is linked to Surya's son Yamraj (God of death) and his sister Yamuna.

Since Yamraj was busy in his work in the past, he could not go to see his sister Yamuna.
After several request, Yamuna called her brother Yamraj home on the fifth day of Yampanchak.
Yamuna worshiped her brother with various dishes, wearing seven colored tika, wearing velvet and dubo garland.
Delighted with the affection of Yamuna, Yamraj blessed him, "Today is the day when sisters worship their brothers with tika like this, their brothers will not fear untimely death." "
From this day, Bhaitika has started celebrating as a symbol of immortal love between sisters and brothers.

2. Bonding between sisters and brothers
This festival is an important medium to strengthen the sacred love and unbreakable relationship between sisters and brothers.
Sisters wear velvet garland when they put tika to their brothers because velvet flowers never fade, which means their love will be immortal.
Since Dubo remains always green while wearing Dubo (Dubo grass) garland and tika, we wish that the brothers live long and steadfast.
The seven colored tika gives a message that the life of the brothers be as beautiful and peaceful as the color.

3. Wishing for happiness and longevity
Sisters break the walnut while worshiping brothers and wish all their sorrows and sufferings will break with the walnut. Also, surrounded by mustard oil and blesses that no obstacles come their way.

It is a great festival to express love and affection towards their brothers rather than in Chotkari, wishing good health, success and longevity for their brothers.
