Mankind Pharma Announces Rs 1 Crore Reward for Flydubai Hero Captain Smit Machchhar
New Delhi, October 4: Indian pharmaceutical giant Mankind Pharma has announced a financial reward of Rs 1 crore for Flydubai pilot Captain Smit Machchhar and his family, recognising his extraordinary bravery during a mid-air cockpit attack on September 30.
Captain Machchhar was reportedly stabbed and seriously injured by his co-pilot aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv with 182 people, including eight crew members. Despite his injuries, he managed to release the cockpit door, enabling crew members and passengers to overpower the alleged attacker. Two off-duty pilots subsequently helped land the aircraft safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
In an appreciation letter, Mankind Pharma Vice Chairman and Managing Director Rajeev Juneja praised Machchhar's courage, composure and leadership, describing the Rs 1 crore contribution as a gesture of gratitude that could never equal the value of the lives protected.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also personally interacted with the injured captain and praised his presence of mind. Meanwhile, the Federation of Indian Pilots has sought a national bravery award or an appropriate civilian honour for Machchhar, who is recovering in a UAE hospital.
