π¨ Massive Crackdown: West Bengal Suspends 3 Top IPS Officers Over Lapses in RG Kar Hospital Case π¨
In a major administrative shakeup, the West Bengal government has officially suspended three high-ranking IPS officers for alleged negligence and mishandling of the initial investigation into the tragic RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case. The bold move was announced by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari from the state secretariat on Friday, signaling a strict zero-tolerance policy towards dereliction of duty.
The suspended officials include former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, along with two ex-deputy commissioners, Indira Mukherjee and Abhishek Gupta. According to the state government, severe allegations have been leveled against these officers. The shocking charges include gross mishandling of the sensitive case, reportedly attempting to offer bribes to the victimβs parents, and holding an unauthorized press conference regarding the horrific crime that originally shook the nation in August 2024.
Chief Minister Adhikari clearly emphasized that while a formal departmental probe has been initiated against the trio, the state administration is strictly keeping its distance from the core criminal investigation, which remains actively under the purview of the CBI and the courts.
Moving forward, the strict disciplinary proceedings will be directly overseen by the state home secretary, functioning under the guidance of the chief secretary, ensuring full transparency and accountability in the administrative inquiry.
