Navratri 2026 Day 9: Maa Siddhidatri, the Divine Goddess of Spiritual Powers, Wisdom and Prosperity
Navratri Day 9 is dedicated to Maa Siddhidatri, the ninth and final manifestation of Goddess Durga. Worshipped on the auspicious occasion of Navami, Maa Siddhidatri is revered as the divine giver of spiritual powers, wisdom, prosperity and perfection. Her name combines two Sanskrit words, "Siddhi," meaning supernatural power or spiritual accomplishment, and "Datri," meaning giver.
According to Hindu mythology, Maa Siddhidatri possesses the power to grant eight divine perfections, collectively known as Ashta Siddhis. These include Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, Ishitva and Vashitva. Devotees believe that her blessings help remove ignorance, overcome obstacles and guide individuals towards spiritual enlightenment and inner peace.
Maa Siddhidatri is traditionally depicted seated on a fully bloomed lotus or riding a lion. She has four arms, holding a discus (Chakra), conch (Shankha), mace (Gada) and lotus. Her serene appearance symbolises divine knowledge, spiritual fulfilment and the ultimate union of strength and wisdom.
Hindu tradition also associates Maa Siddhidatri with Lord Shiva. According to religious belief, Lord Shiva attained divine perfections through her blessings, and she is connected with the concept of Ardhanarishvara, representing the inseparable unity of masculine and feminine energies.
The ninth day of Navratri holds immense religious significance as devotees perform special prayers, offer flowers, fruits and sweets, and seek the blessings of Maa Siddhidatri. Kanya Puja, also known as Kumari Puja, is traditionally performed on Ashtami or Navami, depending on regional customs. Young girls are worshipped as manifestations of the divine feminine energy and offered food and gifts as a mark of devotion and respect.
Maa Siddhidatri represents the culmination of the nine-day spiritual journey of Navratri. Her worship signifies the victory of knowledge over ignorance, devotion over ego and spiritual awakening over worldly attachments.
As devotees conclude the sacred celebration of Navratri, prayers to Maa Siddhidatri reflect the belief that true perfection lies not merely in material achievements but also in wisdom, compassion, self-realisation and inner harmony.
