Siliguri Nursing Students Petition DM Over Alleged ‘Fake’ Recognition; Promoters Reportedly Absconding
Siliguri , Feb 12 – A wave of panic has gripped the students of Asha Paramedical and Nursing Institute in Siliguri, who approached the District Magistrate (DM) of Darjeeling yesterday seeking urgent intervention regarding the legitimacy of their college.
In a formal representation submitted on February 11, 2026, the students alleged that the institute’s management misled them about the college's affiliation status, placing the careers of hundreds of aspiring nurses and paramedics in jeopardy.
Allegations of Misrepresentation
According to the letter submitted to the DM, students claim that during the admission and counselling process, they were explicitly assured that the courses were recognized by competent statutory authorities. However, subsequent inquiries by the students have allegedly revealed that the institute does not possess the mandatory approvals or affiliations required to grant valid professional qualifications.
"The representations made during admission created legitimate confidence in our minds," the letter states, noting that students have now realized their diplomas may not be valid for future employment or government recruitment.
Financial Loss and Legal Action
The students highlighted that they have paid "substantial amounts" in tuition and hostel fees, fearing that this investment is now a total loss.
The controversy has already triggered police action. An FIR has been registered at the Pradhan Nagar Police Station (Case No. 108 of 2026). While the students acknowledge that three employees have been arrested, they have raised alarms that the "main promoters" and key decision-makers named in the FIR are reportedly absconding.
Demands for Justice
Fearing that the truth may be buried if the main accused are not apprehended, the students have requested a high-level inquiry to protect their academic future and ensure strict action against the institute's management.
