πŸš— Thinking of Using E20 Fuel in an Older Vehicle? Here's What You Should Know

Many vehicle owners are asking whether insurance will cover engine damage caused by E20 fuel in cars that are not designed for it.

The answer is not straightforward.

While the Government has clarified that using E20 fuel does not automatically void your motor insurance policy, that does not guarantee that every claim related to E20 fuel damage will be approved.

Insurance companies may consider the use of incompatible fuel as improper usage or negligence, especially if the vehicle manufacturer has not approved E20 for that particular model.

Another important point is that standard motor insurance policies generally exclude "consequential damage" β€” damage that develops gradually over time rather than resulting from a sudden accident.

Even engine protection add-ons mainly cover issues such as water ingress or lubricant leakage and may not necessarily include damage caused by fuel-related corrosion or incompatibility.

❌ But claims for fuel-related engine damage may still be rejected depending on the circumstances and policy terms.

Before switching to E20, check whether your vehicle is E20-compatible and carefully read your insurance policy exclusions.
