Three Arrested in Kolkata College Gang-Rape Case: Justice Sought for Law Student

Authorities in Kolkata, West Bengal, have apprehended three individuals in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a law college student within her campus premises in Kasba. The arrests, made on Thursday night following a complaint by the victim, include a former student and a staff member of the institution.

Kolkata Police confirmed the arrests of Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay on charges related to the incident, which reportedly occurred on June 25. A police spokesperson informed ANI that the accused would be presented before A.C.J.M. Alipore, South 24 Parganas, with a request for police custody to facilitate a thorough investigation.

Azam Khan, the legal counsel for accused Manojit Mishra, stated, "There is an allegation of gang-rape. The woman has alleged that she was raped in college premises. The court has granted police custody until Tuesday, July 1st."

According to reports from The Telegraph, the victim underwent a medical examination at the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. The alleged incident took place between 7:30 PM and 8:50 PM on June 25. A forensic team is scheduled to visit the crime scene later today to gather crucial evidence. The area within the South Calcutta Law College premises where the alleged crime occurred has been sealed by the police.

This disturbing event occurs less than a year after the city was rocked by the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety.

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar critically remarked, "Until Mamata Banerjee remains in power in the state, such rape incidents will keep happening. The rapists have no fear; they know TMC will protect them."

Law enforcement officials are diligently working to ensure justice is served, with the case under close scrutiny. The victim's family and the public await the court's decision, hoping for stringent penalties for those found guilty.
