Sydney, Dec 16 : A man hailed as a "hero" across Australia is being celebrated for his decisive action that significantly mitigated the impact of Sunday's mass shooting at Sydney's Bondi Beach, one of the nation's most devastating attacks in recent memory.
Widely circulated social media footage captured the moment the unarmed individual confronted one of the assailants while bullets were still being fired at shoppers. His intervention is credited with preventing further casualties.
The brief 15-second clip shows the civilian taking cover near parked vehicles. He then charges toward the shooter from behind, tackling the individual, disarming him of his rifle by grabbing his neck, and pinning him to the ground. The civilian then turned the weapon back on the attacker.
