West Bengal Will Launch Ayushman Bharat Cards in July After Centre Approves Rs 3,000 Crore Healthcare Package
Kolkata , May 24 : The West Bengal government plans to start issuing Ayushman Bharat health cards in July after the Centre approved a Rs 3,000 crore healthcare package for the state, CM Suvendu Adhikari announced on Saturday.
Adhikari said this financial support aims to strengthen Bengal’s healthcare system and speed up the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme statewide. The rollout will likely increase medical coverage for many beneficiaries, especially those from economically weaker families.
This announcement comes as there is renewed attention on healthcare delivery and public welfare in West Bengal. Adhikari stated that this initiative will help modernize hospitals, enhance treatment facilities, and provide wider access to cashless healthcare services under the Centre-backed insurance scheme.
Ayushman Bharat is one of India’s largest public health insurance programs. It offers eligible families financial help for hospitalization and medical treatment. The expected rollout in Bengal from July marks a significant change in the state’s healthcare management after lengthy political disagreements over how to implement the scheme.
Healthcare officials will likely begin preparatory work before the launch. This includes identifying beneficiaries, distributing cards, and coordinating with hospitals that are part of the program.
