Gangtok, April 19 : A swift and methodical police operation has led to the arrest of two young men allegedly behind a ₹9 lakh burglary in Tathangchen, bringing the case to a decisive breakthrough within days.
The case, registered as FIR No. 35/2026 at Sadar Police Station on April 13 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, stemmed from a complaint that unknown individuals had broken into a residence and fled with jewellery of substantial value.
Investigators wasted no time. Piecing together CCTV footage and activating local intelligence networks, the team zeroed in on two suspects. The breakthrough came when officers, led by Inspector Manish Gurung, tracked and intercepted the duo at Deorali.
The accused have been identified as Passang Tshering Bhutia (21) and Buddha Rai (23), both originally from Tikjuk in Gyalshing and currently residing in Tathangchen. A detailed search operation led to the complete recovery of the stolen jewellery—an outcome that underscores the precision of the investigation.
