CBI Files Chargesheet In Twisha Sharma Death Case, Names Giribala Singh And Son Samarth As Accused

New Delhi, Aug 17 : The Central Bureau of Investigation has formally filed its chargesheet in the Twisha Sharma death case, naming retired district judge Giribala Singh and her son, Bhopal based advocate Samarth Singh, as accused. The filing came after a special CBI court had set August 17 as the deadline for the agency to submit its findings.

According to sources, the chargesheet charges both accused with dowry death and cruelty linked to dowry demands. It invokes Sections 80(2), 85, 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The document follows months of investigation covering forensic evidence, digital records and a reconstruction of the scene where Twisha died.

Twisha, 33, was a former model and actress who had earlier held the Miss Pune title. Originally from Greater Noida, she married Samarth Singh in December 2025. Her husband is the son of Giribala Singh, who served as a district judge in Bhopal before retiring.

On the night of May 12, Twisha was found hanging at the couple's marital home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal, also known locally as Bagmugalia. Samarth told authorities she had hanged herself around 10.20 pm. She was rushed to AIIMS Bhopal, where doctors declared her brought dead. The post mortem examination listed asphyxia from ante mortem hanging by ligature as the cause of death, and also documented additional injuries on her arm, finger and head that occurred before death.

Twisha's family has alleged she endured sustained harassment over dowry demands, along with mental and physical cruelty during the marriage. They further claimed she was under pressure during a pregnancy that the family says was confirmed in April 2026. Relatives pointed to WhatsApp exchanges in which Twisha allegedly described her distress and asked to be taken away from Bhopal. They also said a phone call with her was disconnected amid shouting on the evening she died. Separately, the family has questioned how her body was handled afterward and raised doubts about the preservation of evidence.

The case has moved through several stages since May. Police initially registered an FIR against Samarth and Giribala under the same BNS and Dowry Prohibition Act provisions later cited in the chargesheet. The Madhya Pradesh government subsequently recommended that the CBI take over the probe, and the Supreme Court directed the central agency to assume investigation of the matter. The CBI then re registered the case and moved to arrest both accused, with Samarth taken into custody first. Giribala's arrest followed after the Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed the anticipatory bail she had been granted.

Throughout the investigation, the accused have maintained that Twisha died by suicide and have rejected the dowry harassment allegations. They have also challenged parts of the CBI's case, including matters relating to voice sample evidence, and have pointed to other personal circumstances as possible factors behind her death.
