Army's Clever Trap Exposes Fake Brigadier in UP Cantonment, NEET Aspirant Held

Shahjahanpur, June 13: A 21-year-old man pretending to be a senior Indian Army officer was caught in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur Cantonment after Army officials carried out a planned sting operation.

The accused, Aryan Verma, had reportedly been impersonating a Brigadier and wearing military clothes for several months. Army officials had been watching his activities since April after receiving tips about his suspicious appearances.

Unable to track him earlier, officials posed as civilians and invited him to speak at a motivational session for young defence aspirants inside the cantonment area. Believing the invitation was real, Verma showed up dressed as a Brigadier and was immediately arrested by Army personnel.

Investigators recovered fake identity documents, military insignia, an Army cane, and a fake pistol. He had two bouncers with him whom he introduced as NSG commandos.

Officials say the accused had been preparing for the NEET examination and had failed multiple attempts. Army Intelligence teams are now investigating to find out the reason for the impersonation and whether anyone else was involved.

"My mother wanted me to become an Army officer, while my father hoped I would become a doctor. I didn't want to disappoint my parents, so I tried my best. I appeared for the NEET examination twice, but failed both times.

To fulfill my mother's dream, I bought a uniform and became a 'Brigadier.' I even hired two security guards and got them dressed in NGS Commando uniforms. I had 'Doctor' and 'Army' written on my car and started driving around with an Army flag displayed on it."

Aryan Verma is a resident of the Roza area of the city. He lives in a three-storey house. His father, Anil Verma, works as an Inspector in the Horticulture Department in the Powayan area. His mother, Manoj Devi, is a government school teacher posted in Jalalpur under the Sadar Tehsil region. He also has a younger brother, who studies in Class 4.
