Major Drug Bust in Siliguri: Nearly 2 Kg of Brown Sugar Seized at PC Mittal Bus Terminus, Three Arrested
Siliguri: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Siliguri Metropolitan Police has achieved another significant success. Acting on a specific intelligence input, a joint team of Bhaktinagar Police Station and the Special Operations Group (SOG) conducted a raid at PC Mittal Bus Terminus and seized nearly 2 kg of suspected brown sugar. Three persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to police sources, the joint team launched the operation following information about a suspected drug trafficking activity in the area. During the search operation at PC Mittal Bus Terminus, the police recovered a substantial quantity of brown sugar, estimated to be around 2 kg.
The three arrested accused include two residents of Malda district and one from Uttar Dinajpur district. Preliminary estimates suggest that the seized narcotics could be worth several crores of rupees in the international drug market.
Police have initiated an investigation to determine the source of the consignment and its intended destination. Investigators are also examining whether Siliguri was being used as a transit corridor for transporting narcotics to different parts of North Bengal.
The arrested individuals are being interrogated to identify the alleged masterminds behind the trafficking network and establish whether more people are involved in the racket. Police are also investigating the possibility of a larger organised drug trafficking network operating in the region.
It may be mentioned that Siliguri Metropolitan Police has been conducting continuous operations against drug trafficking across the region. The latest joint operation by Bhaktinagar Police and SOG is being viewed as another significant step in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics. However, the investigation is underway to uncover the wider network and establish the full extent of the operation.
