Pregnant Woman and Her Mother Test Positive for COVID-19 in Itanagar, Authorities Urge Vigilance
Itanagar has witnessed a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, with two new infections confirmed through RT-PCR testing conducted at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) at TRIHMS.
The infections, reported to be linked, involve a 34-year-old pregnant woman and her 53-year-old mother. According to Dr. L. Jampa, State Surveillance Officer for the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), the daughter—currently 21 weeks into her pregnancy—showed mild symptoms such as fever and cough. She was first screened using a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) at Rama Krishna Mission Hospital on May 26 after arriving in Itanagar from Bengaluru on May 13. Subsequent RT-PCR testing confirmed the diagnosis.
Her mother, although asymptomatic, was also found COVID-19 positive following routine contact tracing and confirmatory testing.
Health officials are currently preparing a comprehensive advisory in consultation with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi. Dr. Jampa emphasized that the situation is under control and called on residents to remain alert but avoid panic.
Authorities have stepped up surveillance and are closely monitoring the case cluster to prevent further spread.
