Sikkim Government Sets Up Helpline for Residents Affected by Nepal Floods
Gangtok, Aug 27: The Government of Sikkim has established a dedicated emergency helpline to assist residents of the state who may be stranded, affected or in need of urgent assistance in Nepal following the devastating flash floods that struck several parts of the neighbouring country.
The Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), under the Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department, announced the measure after severe flooding caused widespread disruption in Nepal’s Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts on August 26.
According to the SSDMA, the helpline will facilitate the exchange of information, coordination of rescue and assistance, and communication with the concerned authorities in Nepal and India.

Residents requiring assistance can contact the State Emergency Operations Centre, SSDMA, at:

Families in Sikkim who have relatives or other family members currently in Nepal and affected by the floods have been urged to contact the helpline and provide relevant information to help authorities locate and assist them.
Callers have been requested to provide the affected person's name, current location in Nepal, contact or mobile number, details of accompanying family members or other persons, the nature of assistance required, and any additional information that could help authorities locate or assist the individual.
The state government said it is closely monitoring the situation and will coordinate with the Government of India, the Embassy and consular authorities, the Government of Nepal and other concerned agencies to extend necessary assistance.
Authorities have also appealed to families and the general public not to panic and to rely only on verified information from official sources.
People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to flood-affected areas of Nepal and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
The SSDMA said the Government of Sikkim remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of people from the state and will issue further updates as the situation develops.
