Beyond the Trophy: BCCI Empowers Women’s Cricket with Historic Pay Revolution Post World Cup Triumph
New Delhi, Dec 24 : Following the Indian women’s team’s historic victory at the ODI World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a major pay hike for women’s domestic cricketers, marking a significant step toward financial equity in the sport.
Under the revised structure, senior women domestic players will now earn 50,000 rupees per day for multi-day and one-day matches, more than double the earlier match fee of 20,000 rupees. The increase reflects the BCCI’s intent to reward performance while strengthening the foundation of women’s cricket in the country.
The hike applies across formats and age groups. Senior players competing in domestic T20 matches will now receive 25,000 rupees per day. Junior cricketers in the Under-19 and Under-23 categories will also benefit, with match fees raised to 25,000 rupees per day for longer-format games.
Match officials have not been left out of the revision. Umpires and referees officiating women’s domestic matches will receive enhanced remuneration, with fees ranging from 40,000 to 60,000 rupees depending on the stage and importance of the match.
The decision comes in the wake of the national team’s World Cup triumph and is seen as a move to ensure long-term sustainability for women’s cricket. By improving financial security at the domestic level, the BCCI aims to encourage young talent, strengthen the grassroots system, and enable aspiring female cricketers to pursue the sport as a viable and rewarding career.
