Bollywood Actor Rajpal Yadav Surrenders at Tihar After Delhi HC Denies More Time in Cheque Bounce Case

New Delhi , 6 Feb : Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered to authorities at Tihar Jail on Thursday after the Delhi High Court refused to extend his deadline for turning himself in, in connection with a long-standing cheque bounce legal dispute.

The High Court bench, headed by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, rejected the actor’s plea seeking additional time to arrange repayment of dues linked to multiple dishonoured cheques. The court observed that Yadav had already been granted sufficient time earlier but had failed to comply with its directions.

Earlier, the actor had been instructed to report to the jail superintendent by 4 pm on February 4, a deadline he missed. His counsel informed the court that efforts were being made to arrange funds and claimed that ₹50 lakh had been collected towards the pending amount. However, the court declined to grant further relief, stating that repeated non-compliance could not be condoned.

After the High Court dismissed his request for an extension, Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail later in the day, in line with the court’s order. Jail authorities confirmed that the actor complied with the directive and presented himself before the authorities.

The case relates to a cheque bounce matter that dates back several years, involving unpaid dues after cheques issued by the actor were dishonoured. Lower courts had earlier upheld his conviction and a six-month sentence. Although the sentence had been stayed temporarily in the past, the recent High Court order emphasised strict compliance, leading to Yadav’s surrender.
