BSF Jawan Repatriated by Pakistan After Inadvertent Border Crossing
Amritsar, May 14: In a development marking a rare moment of cooperation between India and Pakistan, Border Security Force (BSF) constable Purnam Kumar Shaw was repatriated to India by Pakistani authorities at the Attari-Wagah border on Tuesday morning.
According to an official statement from the BSF, Constable Shaw had inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory on April 23 while on operational duty in the Ferozepur sector around 11:50 AM. He was subsequently taken into custody by the Pakistan Rangers.
The BSF confirmed that after sustained diplomatic and operational engagement—including flag meetings and communication through established military channels—Shaw was formally handed back to Indian authorities at 10:30 AM on May 14.
The force expressed appreciation for the coordinated efforts that led to the successful return of the personnel. Incidents of inadvertent crossings are not uncommon along the sensitive border areas, and this resolution comes as a positive outcome amid ongoing strained ties between the two countries.
