Budget Day Gas Price Surprise: Commercial LPG Costs Rise, Household Rates Hold Steady
TVS Report, 01 Feb : Oil marketing companies have increased the price of commercial LPG cylinders by ₹49 per 19-kg unit, effective 1 February 2026, as part of the latest monthly fuel price revision. The hike impacts businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and small enterprises that depend on commercial LPG for daily operations.
The price change applies only to the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder. In contrast, the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder used for household cooking has been left unchanged, providing relief to domestic consumers.
Revised commercial LPG rates vary across major cities. In Delhi, the price is around ₹1,740.50 per cylinder. Kolkata has seen rates rise to about ₹1,844.50, while Mumbai’s price is nearly ₹1,692. Chennai remains the costliest among metro cities, with rates close to ₹1,899.50.
According to industry observers, such revisions are part of regular adjustments made by oil companies based on global energy prices, currency fluctuations, and transportation costs. The latest increase adds to earlier hikes this year, raising operating costs for commercial users and potentially affecting prices in the food and hospitality sectors.
Domestic LPG consumers continue to benefit from stable pricing, as household cylinder rates have remained unchanged since April 2025.
