Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case Back in Spotlight: Fresh CBI Probe Revives Questions Over Viral ‘13 Deaths’ Theory

Mumbai , September 19 : Six years after the deaths of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput and his former manager Disha Salian, a fresh investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into Salian’s death has brought the two cases back into the national spotlight.

The renewed scrutiny follows a Bombay High Court order directing the CBI to investigate Salian’s death. The agency registered an FIR on September 13, 2026, based on a complaint by her father, Satish Salian, who has raised allegations of murder, sexual assault, conspiracy and suppression of evidence. These allegations remain under investigation and have not been established as facts.

The development has also revived an online theory alleging connections between 13 deaths associated with the wider controversy. However, no verified investigative finding establishes that all 13 deaths were linked or formed part of a common conspiracy.

The Two Deaths That Shook Bollywood

Disha Salian, who had briefly worked as Sushant Singh Rajput’s manager, died in June 2020 after falling from a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area.

Just six days later, on June 14, 2020, Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence.

The proximity of the two deaths generated intense public attention, with questions raised about whether the incidents were connected.

The CBI subsequently investigated Rajput’s death and submitted a closure report in March 2025, ruling out foul play. The report remained subject to judicial consideration, according to subsequent reporting.

Fresh CBI FIR: What Has Changed After Six Years?

The latest development concerns the investigation into Disha Salian’s death.

On September 2, 2026, the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to investigate the case after identifying shortcomings in the earlier inquiry.

The court questioned why the matter had remained an accidental-death inquiry for approximately six years without an FIR.

Following the order, the CBI recorded Satish Salian’s statement and registered a fresh FIR on September 13.

The investigation will examine several issues raised in the complaint, including:

Alleged discrepancies in CCTV footage and witness statements.

Questions surrounding medical and post-mortem records.

Allegations concerning the handling of mobile phones and digital evidence.

Claims that important evidence was suppressed or altered.

The circumstances surrounding Salian’s death and the conduct of the earlier investigation.

The allegations are not proof of criminal wrongdoing. Investigators will need to establish the facts through admissible evidence.

What Is the Viral ‘13 Deaths’ Theory?

The fresh investigation has also renewed discussion of a theory circulating online that attempts to connect 13 deaths to the wider Sushant Singh Rajput controversy.

The theory draws together deaths involving people associated with the entertainment industry and other individuals whose names have appeared in online discussions.

However, the available reporting does not establish that these deaths share a common cause, were connected through criminal activity or resulted from a coordinated conspiracy.

The distinction is crucial: a list of deaths circulating on social media is not equivalent to an official investigative finding.

Any claim of a common connection would require independent verification through police records, forensic evidence, witness testimony and other material.

What Happens Next?

The CBI investigation into Disha Salian’s death is expected to examine the earlier police inquiry, witness accounts, forensic material, medical documentation and available electronic evidence.

The investigation could clarify questions raised by Salian’s family about the handling of the original case. However, the registration of an FIR does not establish the guilt of any individual.

For the families involved and members of the public following the case, the central issue remains whether the investigation can establish a clear, evidence-based account of the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death.

Six years after the two deaths drew nationwide attention, the fresh CBI probe has reopened scrutiny of the earlier investigation.

Whether the renewed inquiry establishes any connection between the cases, or supports any of the wider allegations circulating online, remains to be determined.
