Death Sentence for Banda Couple in Gruesome Child Abuse Case
TVS Report, 21 Feb : A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Banda, Uttar Pradesh has sentenced a former junior engineer and his wife to death. They repeatedly abused and sexually exploited children over many years. The couple, Ram Bhawan and Durgawati, were found guilty of serious crimes, including aggravated penetrative sexual assault and using children to create pornographic material involving boys as young as three years old.
The court described these offences as among the “rarest of rare.” It cited the large number of victims and the systematic nature of the crimes. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) led the investigation, which started in 2020 after information from Interpol triggered the inquiry.
During the decade-long abuse, the couple not only assaulted at least 33 boys but also recorded videos and photos of these acts. They shared this material online. In delivering the death sentence, the court ordered the government to award ₹10 lakh in compensation to each victim. The remaining cash recovered from the couple's home is to be shared equally among the survivors.
This ruling sends a strong message about the seriousness of child abuse and the strictest punishment under Indian law for such terrible crimes.
