Fake Cop Arrested in Gaighata After Impersonating Constable for a Year
A man named Ankit Ghosh from Shimulpur Chourangi under Gaighata police station in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, has been arrested for pretending to be a police constable for nearly a year.
Police said Ankit had stitched several police uniforms and regularly moved around the area dressed as a constable. He convinced his family and neighbors that he was working at Salt Lake’s Bikash Bhavan.
He often uploaded photos wearing the uniform on social media, which made people believe he had secured a government job at a young age.
Based on a tip-off, Gaighata police started monitoring him and arrested him on Tuesday. At first, Ankit insisted he was an actual constable but eventually admitted the truth when he could not show any identification documents.
Police seized multiple uniforms, fake nameplates, and forged documents. Investigations found that he had appeared for police recruitment exams but failed. Despite this, he told his family he got the job and kept up the act by pretending to go to work every day.
