Gold, silver imports to get costlier as govt hikes customs duty to 15%
The government hiked import duty on several categories of gold, silver and other precious metals from 6% to 15%, days after PM Narendra Modi urged Indians not to buy gold for a year.
The revised duty structure, effective from May 13, is expected to make precious metals costlier.
Import duty on gold "findings", like hooks and clasps, is now 5%.
