Kolkata Cops Nab Conman in ₹32 Lakh Fake IOC Job Scam, Probe Underway
Kolkata Police have busted a major fake job racket and arrested a man accused of cheating three youths of ₹32 lakh by falsely promising them jobs in the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). According to police officials, the accused pretended to be a central government official and claimed to have close links with senior ministers to win the confidence of the victims.
The case surfaced after the accused approached two young men and a woman in a market area of Patuli in south Kolkata. Projecting himself as a powerful and well-connected individual, he assured them of genuine employment opportunities and even showed forged identity documents to appear credible.
To secure the promised jobs, the victims arranged a large sum of money, mainly by mortgaging family jewellery. They paid ₹22 lakh through online transactions and handed over another ₹10 lakh in cash. After receiving the money, the accused stopped responding to their calls and messages, prompting the victims to lodge a complaint at Patuli police station.
During the investigation, police arrested the accused, identified as Krishnendu Chatterjee. A search revealed that he possessed multiple Aadhaar cards bearing different addresses in areas such as Lake Town, Baguiati and Patuli. Investigators believe these fake identities were used to carry out the fraud and are now probing how the documents were procured and whether more people were involved in the racket.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to uncover the full network behind the scam and to ensure strict action against all those connected to the case.
