Microsoft Offers Voluntary Exit Packages to 60,000 Employees, Including in India
New Delhi, October 27: Technology giant Microsoft has announced a voluntary exit programme for approximately 60,000 eligible employees across India, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada as part of its workforce restructuring strategy amid rising investments in artificial intelligence.
The programme allows eligible employees in selected departments to leave voluntarily with financial compensation, healthcare benefits and career transition support. Employees at internal job level 70 and below may qualify, depending on their department and business requirements.
Eligible employees in India reportedly have until December 1, 2026, to accept the offer, with December 31 expected to be their final working day. Microsoft employs approximately 23,000 people in India, although the number eligible for the programme remains unclear.
The company clarified that the initiative is voluntary and does not mean 60,000 employees are being laid off. The move comes as Microsoft adjusts its workforce while expanding investments in AI infrastructure and technology.
