US Suspends Green Card Sponsorship for TCS, Infosys, Wipro and Five Other Tech Giants
New Delhi, October 9: The United States has reportedly suspended eight major technology companies, including Indian IT giants TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCLTech, from sponsoring foreign workers for permanent residency under the PERM programme, effective October 8.
The reported restrictions also cover Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant and Capgemini amid investigations into alleged misuse of the employment-based green card system.
The suspension affects new and pending green card sponsorship applications but does not cancel existing H-1B visas or prevent fresh H-1B applications.
The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) warned that the move could signal wider restrictions on skilled-worker mobility and outsourcing, potentially affecting India's IT industry. However, former Infosys CFO TV Mohandas Pai said the immediate impact would likely be limited.
