Missile and Drone Strike Rocks Saudi Airbase, US Troops Injured as Tensions Escalate
Washington, March 29 : At least 15 American soldiers were injured after Iran launched a missile and drone attack on a military airbase in Saudi Arabia, marking a sharp escalation as the conflict involving United States and Israel enters its second month.
According to international reports, the strike took place on Friday, targeting the Prince Sultan Airbase near Riyadh. The attack reportedly involved at least six ballistic missiles and 29 drones. Several personnel sustained injuries, with some said to be in critical condition.
Sources indicate that many of the soldiers were inside a building within the base when the attack occurred. US official confirmed that more than a dozen troops were hurt, including a few seriously.
Iranian military officials have claimed that the strike caused significant damage, including the destruction of a refuelling aircraft and damage to several others. Satellite imagery circulating in the aftermath appears to show damaged aircraft on the base, though independent verification remains limited.
Located about 96 kilometres from Riyadh, the airbase is operated by Saudi forces but is also used by US troops. This is not the first time the facility has come under attack—earlier incidents had already left several American personnel injured.
Iran has repeatedly accused countries in the Gulf region of allowing their territories to be used as launch points for US operations. In response, it has targeted such locations in past strikes.
Meanwhile, US forces have continued their own operations, including a recent strike aimed at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear facility. However, reports suggest there was no major damage or casualties from that attack.
Since the conflict began, at least 13 US soldiers have been killed and more than 300 injured. On the Iranian side, the number of affected personnel is believed to be significantly higher, though exact figures remain unclear.
Iran has also claimed to have targeted a US-linked vessel near Oman, but further details on that incident have not yet been disclosed.
With both sides continuing military actions, tensions across the Middle East are rising rapidly, raising fears of a wider and more prolonged conflict.
