Pune Police Seek Court Approval for Polygraph Test on Siya Goyal in Ketan Agarwal Murder Case
Pune Police have moved a local court seeking permission to conduct a lie-detector (polygraph) test on Siya Goyal, the prime accused in the alleged murder of her fiancé, Ketan Agarwal. Investigators believe the test could help uncover crucial details as the probe into the high-profile case continues.
During the court proceedings, police stated that the investigation has been complicated by the absence of any direct eyewitness who can confirm exactly what happened at the fort where Ketan Agarwal died. According to the prosecution, there is currently no direct evidence establishing who pushed Ketan from the fort, making it difficult to reconstruct the sequence of events with certainty.
The investigating team argued that a polygraph examination may help verify the statements made by the accused and provide additional leads in the case. However, under Indian law, such a test can only be conducted after obtaining the court's permission and the voluntary consent of the accused.
Legal experts note that while polygraph tests may assist investigators during an investigation, their results are not admissible as substantive evidence in a court of law. Instead, they are used only as an investigative tool and cannot be relied upon to establish guilt or innocence.
The murder case has attracted significant public attention, and investigators continue to gather forensic, digital, and circumstantial evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding Ketan Agarwal's death. The court is expected to decide on the police's request after considering the legal provisions governing the use of polygraph examinations.
