Raghav Chadha Joins BJP, Wife Parineeti Chopra Is Far Richer Than Him — Combined Wealth Around ₹74.5 Crore
New Delhi, April 24 : The political churn in the Rajya Sabha deepened this week as Raghav Chadha, one of the more recognisable faces of the Aam Aadmi Party, walked out of the party along with six fellow MPs and signed up with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal were among those who joined him in the move, leaving AAP visibly weakened in the Upper House.
The defection has reopened public curiosity about the personal finances of the leader at the centre of it. Going by Chadha's own affidavits filed with the Election Commission over the years, his declared wealth has stayed unusually modest for a politician of his stature, and remains below the fifty-lakh mark.
His 2019 Lok Sabha affidavit listed movable assets of a little over ₹16 lakh and an annual income of around ₹2.19 lakh. He held no immovable property at the time. By the Delhi Assembly polls of 2020 the figure had climbed to roughly ₹20 lakh. His most recent disclosure, made ahead of the 2022 Rajya Sabha election, put his cash holdings, bonds and shares at about ₹37 lakh. The same affidavit recorded a residential property in the ₹36–37 lakh range and a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire valued at approximately ₹1.32 lakh.
Before politics pulled him in, Chadha trained as a Chartered Accountant and worked with Deloitte and Grant Thornton. He was educated at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, and later at Sri Venkateswara College of Delhi University.
The contrast with his wife, actor Parineeti Chopra, could hardly be sharper. Her wealth, drawn from over a decade in Hindi cinema and a string of brand endorsements, is estimated at around ₹74 crore. A sea-facing apartment in Bandra worth about ₹22 crore is the centrepiece of her holdings, alongside a garage that includes a Range Rover Vogue and two Audis, the Q4 and the Q7. Forbes India had earlier placed her on its Celebrity 100 list, with her annual earnings then pegged at ₹5.36 crore.
Taken together, the couple's combined assets work out to roughly ₹74.5 crore, with Chopra accounting for almost the entire figure.
The disclosures have surfaced at a delicate moment. Chadha's defection is among the bigger headaches AAP has faced in Parliament in recent memory, and the financial spotlight, however incidental, has added a fresh layer of attention to a transition his new party will be keen to manage carefully.
