Sikkim CM Reviews Crisis Preparedness in High-Level Strategic Meeting
Gangtok, 9 May : In light of ongoing concerns and the need for heightened vigilance, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang chaired a high-level review meeting today to evaluate the state’s preparedness for any emerging challenges or emergencies. The session brought together top officials from across departments to strengthen coordination and ensure rapid, unified responses to potential crises.
Among those present were Political Secretary to the CM Jacob Khaling, Cabinet Secretary V.B. Pathak, Chief Secretary R. Telang, Director General of Police Akshay Sachdeva, and senior officials from departments including Health, Power, Roads & Bridges, Food & Civil Supplies, Revenue, and Disaster Management. District Collectors and Superintendents of Police from all four districts also joined the session.
The Chief Minister issued several key directives aimed at fortifying Sikkim’s readiness:
The Power Department has been tasked with conducting blackout drills and launching awareness campaigns to prepare the public for power outages.
The Roads & Bridges Department must ensure all essential roadways and bridges are structurally safe and accessible.
Health Services have been placed on alert with instructions to maintain hospital readiness, adequate staffing, and emergency medical teams on standby.
The Food & Civil Supplies Department has been directed to stock essential commodities and fuel reserves and maintain uninterrupted delivery across all regions.
Police and Security Forces, including IRB and SAP, are instructed to intensify surveillance in sensitive zones, particularly border areas, and conduct frequent emergency response exercises.
The State Disaster Management Authority will activate early warning systems, including sirens, and ensure deployment of trained personnel when necessary.
Chief Minister Tamang reassured the public that the administration is fully committed to safeguarding the state. Highlighting Sikkim’s strategic location near international borders, he stressed the importance of remaining alert and enhancing inter-agency coordination.
“Our focus is clear—protecting the people of Sikkim through robust planning, effective infrastructure, and rapid response systems,” said the Chief Minister. He urged citizens to remain calm, follow verified information from official channels, and cooperate with authorities.
He further appealed to the public to refrain from spreading unverified content that could incite panic or compromise state security.
