Siliguri is likely to witness a major administrative overhaul, with plans underway to create a new Municipal Corporation covering Matigara, Shivmandir and Bagdogra.

Alongside the civic expansion, Siliguri is also expected to be declared a separate district to strengthen governance and accelerate development.

According to the proposal, the new Municipal Corporation will include Matigara, Shivmandir and Bagdogra under a unified urban body. The move is expected to improve sanitation, civic infrastructure, urban planning and implementation of government projects, while also creating new local employment opportunities.

Speaking on the development, MLA Anandamay Barman said the proposal would become a historic step for the overall growth of the region.

“This decision is a historic step towards the holistic development of the area. Our priority is to ensure better services and facilities reach the people,” he said.
