A massive landslide has struck the SijiāMagi Block Point in Lower Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh, completely blocking the flow of the Siji River (Gai Nadi) and forming a temporary natural dam.
Officials have cautioned that if the natural dam breaches, it could unleash a powerful surge of water downstream, significantly increasing the risk of flash floods. The districts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji in Assam have been identified as the most vulnerable, while nearby riverine areas are also under close watch.
Residents living along riverbanks and in low-lying areas are urged to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement near rivers, and strictly follow advisories issued by the district administration and disaster management authorities.
