India Launches 'Operation Sindhu' to Evacuate Citizens from Iran
New Delhi: India has initiated "Operation Sindhu," a large-scale evacuation effort, to safely bring back Indian nationals from Iran amidst escalating tensions in the region. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that the government accords the highest priority to the safety and security of its citizens abroad.
The first phase of the operation saw the successful evacuation of 110 Indian students from northern Iran. These students, under the close supervision of Indian diplomatic missions in both Iran and Armenia, crossed the border into Armenia on June 17th.
Following their transit, the students departed from Yerevan on a special evacuation flight, which is expected to arrive in New Delhi in the early hours of June 19th, 2025.
Further details regarding the ongoing operation and future evacuation flights are anticipated as the situation unfolds. India's swift response underscores its commitment to the well-being of its diaspora in challenging international circumstances.
