India Sends Fourth Relief Flight to Flood-Hit Nepal With 11 Tonnes of Aid

New Delhi, Aug 30: India has stepped up its humanitarian and technical assistance to flood-hit Nepal, dispatching a fourth relief flight carrying 11 tonnes of supplies, specialised search-and-rescue personnel and forensic experts, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar has announced.

The latest consignment is being transported aboard an Indian Air Force C-130 aircraft as rescue and recovery operations continue following the devastating floods in Nepal. Jaishankar announced the deployment in a post on X on August 29.

According to the External Affairs Minister, the aircraft is carrying a specialised tunnel technical contingent along with equipment required for search-and-rescue operations. A team of forensic experts equipped to conduct DNA analysis has also been sent to assist authorities with identification work.

The fourth flight is also carrying humanitarian supplies including blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, plastic sheets and hygiene kits.

16 Trucks Carry Bridge Equipment to Nepal

India's assistance is extending beyond emergency relief supplies to the restoration of critical infrastructure.

Jaishankar said 16 trucks carrying equipment for a 230-foot single-lane modular steel bridge have already reached Nepal. Equipment required to install seven additional Bailey bridges will also be supplied shortly, while technical teams responsible for their installation are expected to arrive soon.

The bridge assistance is expected to support efforts to restore connectivity in areas where roads and bridges have been damaged by the disaster.

68.5 Tonnes of Relief Material Airlifted

With the latest operation, India has so far airlifted a total of 68.5 tonnes of relief and technical material to Kathmandu, according to Jaishankar.

The assistance sent so far includes essential medicines, portable generator sets, food packets, water-purification tablets and specialised technical equipment, besides other emergency supplies.

Jaishankar said India's support for Nepal's ongoing relief and rescue operations would continue.

The deployment of tunnel specialists, forensic experts and bridge-building equipment marks an expansion of India's response from immediate humanitarian assistance to specialised rescue, identification and infrastructure-restoration support.
