Indian Crew Member Killed, Six Others Injured After Iranian Missile Strike Hits UAE Tankers in Strait of Hormuz
New Delhi, July 14: An Indian national lost his life while six other Indian crew members sustained injuries after two United Arab Emirates (UAE) oil tankers were reportedly struck by Iranian cruise missiles while passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, according to the UAE Ministry of Defence.
The ministry said the two vessels, Mombasa and Al Bahiyah, came under missile attack in the southern shipping lane of the strait within Omani territorial waters. The Indian crew member who died was serving aboard the Mombasa tanker.
A total of eight crew members were injured in the attack, including six Indian nationals and two Ukrainian nationals. Officials said four of the injured are in critical condition and are receiving medical treatment.
Condemning the strike, the UAE Ministry of Defence described the attack as a serious violation of international law and warned that it posed a significant threat to regional peace, maritime security and international shipping.
The ministry stated that the UAE Armed Forces remain on the highest level of operational readiness and are prepared to respond decisively to any action that threatens the country's security or stability.
The missile strike comes amid escalating tensions across West Asia, where recent military confrontations have heightened concerns over the safety of commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world's busiest and most strategically important maritime trade routes.
