Massive Crackdown: CBI Raids Ex-Reliance Comm Bosses Over ₹27,337 Crore Bank Fraud
New Delhi, May 14 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has dramatically escalated its probe into the staggering ₹27,337 crore bank fraud involving the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group, launching fresh, targeted raids across three major Indian cities.
On May 14, 2026, investigative teams swooped down on seven residential premises spread across Mumbai, Gurugram, and Bengaluru. The primary targets of these searches were the former top brass—specifically the then CEO, CFO, and directors—who were at the helm of Reliance Communications Ltd. during the crucial 2015-2017 period.
Armed with search warrants issued by the Special Judge for CBI Cases in Mumbai, authorities successfully seized a cache of highly incriminating documents. Officials have confirmed that the investigation is actively ongoing and more details are expected to emerge.
This latest operation is part of a much larger, sprawling investigation that is currently being monitored directly by the Supreme Court of India. Over the past few months, the central agency has registered seven separate cases against the ADA Group. These cases stem from explosive complaints filed by major Public Sector Banks and the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), alleging massive financial irregularities and systemic fraud totaling an eye-watering ₹27,337 crore.
The dragnet has already started closing in on key figures. Prior to this week's raids, the CBI had already conducted widespread searches at 31 different locations. Just last month, on April 20, 2026, two high-ranking Reliance Communications executives were formally arrested. D. Vishwanath, the Joint President who oversaw the group's banking operations, and Anil Kalya, Vice President, were taken into custody for their alleged roles in managing payments and the questionable utilization of funds. Both executives currently remain behind bars in judicial custody.
As the Supreme Court keeps a close watch, these coordinated raids signal that investigative agencies are tightening the screws on one of the biggest alleged corporate banking frauds in recent history.
