Pakistan Strikes Back With ‘Ghazab Lil Haq’ After Deadly Border Clash With Afghanistan
New Delhi, 27 Feb : Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan sharply increased after a deadly exchange of fire along the disputed Durand Line. Both sides reported heavy casualties and military losses.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of National Defence stated that 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed during retaliatory operations late Thursday night along the 2,611-kilometre frontier. Kabul has long refused to recognize the Durand Line as an official international border.
According to Afghan authorities, the four-hour military operation began at 8:00 pm on February 26, which was the ninth day of Ramadan. The action was a response to an alleged cross-border incursion by Pakistani forces, which resulted in the deaths of women and children.
Afghan forces claimed they hit several Pakistani positions near the provinces of Paktika, Paktia, Khost, Nangarhar, Kunar, and Nuristan. Officials reported the destruction of two bases, the seizure of 19 military posts, and the capture of weapons and vehicles. Eight Afghan fighters were confirmed dead, and 11 others were injured. Additionally, 13 civilians were reportedly wounded after a missile struck a refugee camp in Nangarhar.
In retaliation, Pakistan announced the launch of Operation “Ghazab Lil Haq.” They stated that their forces eliminated 133 Taliban fighters and dismantled multiple militant positions. The operation was a direct response to Afghan attacks.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid acknowledged that Pakistani airstrikes targeted locations in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia, but he claimed that there were no casualties from those strikes.
The situation remains highly unstable, with both nations exchanging claims as regional tensions rise.
