Red Fort Blast: New Video of Accused Umar Nabi Surfaces, Calls Attack ‘Martyrdom Operation’
A new video linked to Red Fort blast suspect Dr Umar Nabi has emerged online nearly one week after the November 10 explosion that killed 13 people. The footage, believed to be self-recorded, shows the accused defending the blast and referring to suicide bombing as a misunderstood idea that he claims should instead be viewed as a martyrdom act under Islam.
Investigating agencies have confirmed that the video was discovered on the mobile phone of another accused, Bilal, who was detained in Jammu and Kashmir along with others believed to be connected to the case. Officials suspect that the video was recorded before the attack and had been shared among the group in advance. The clip has been sent for forensic examination.
In the video, Umar Nabi discusses what he describes as contradictions and debates surrounding suicide bombings. He is heard claiming that the commonly used term should be replaced with what he calls a martyrdom operation. He is also seen making statements suggesting that death is predetermined and unavoidable.
Investigators are currently analysing the content of the clip as part of their efforts to understand the motive and the wider network behind the Red Fort blast. The explosion on November 10 resulted in the death of 13 people and left several others injured.
