Twisha Sharma Death Case: CBI Begins Fresh Probe, Examines Crime Scene in Bhopal

New Delhi, May 27 : The Central Bureau of Investigation officially began investigating the death of former actor-model Twisha Sharma on Tuesday. This high-profile case has raised allegations of dowry harassment and led to calls for justice from her family.

A CBI team arrived at Twisha’s home in Bhopal, where she was found hanging on May 12. Investigators inspected the property and the crime scene while starting to gather evidence. The agency formally took over the case from the Madhya Pradesh Police SIT a day earlier.

Late Monday night, the CBI re-registered an FIR against Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, a former judge. Officials from the agency’s Special Crime Unit collected forensic reports, documents, and evidence previously compiled by the SIT during its initial inquiry.

The case has drawn significant public attention since Twisha’s family accused her husband and in-laws of dowry-related harassment and foul play in her death. While initial findings, including the preliminary post-mortem report and statements from the accused, suggested suicide, Twisha’s relatives have continually disputed that claim and demanded a central agency investigation.

Before the handover to the CBI, the SIT reportedly questioned Samarth Singh for over three hours and recreated the crime scene as part of its investigation. During questioning, he claimed that Twisha's behavior changed after her pregnancy and a subsequent abortion, repeating earlier statements.

Meanwhile, legal actions regarding evidence preservation have already started in a Bhopal district court. Twisha’s family, through advocate Ankur Pandey, requested the preservation of Call Detail Records. A separate petition on behalf of Giribala Singh asked that relevant CCTV footage be secured. Both requests were set for a hearing later in the day.

In the coming days, the CBI is expected to keep examining digital evidence, forensic materials, and statements from family members.
