Gangtok, August 16 : This ban restricts people from investing money in online gambling and games through mobile apps. In a special program last month, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) had sharply criticized this system, stating that it creates discord in families and society. He also mentioned that many people in Sikkim and the Northeast have lost their lives due to the impact of such activities.

The Chief Minister referred to these apps as an addiction, noting that people of all ages—from children to the elderly—have invested from lakhs to crores in gambling and that some have even committed suicide. He said that he had discussed the matter with high-ranking Sikkim Police officials, concerned authority to quickly remove this problem from society and that efforts were being made to immediately ban these apps.

Today, it was reported that two mobile apps have disabled their services in Sikkim. However, many similar apps continue to lure people through advertisements on social media. After these two apps were banned, the public has demanded that other apps, including paper lotteries, be banned soon as well.
