FIR Filed Against Karnataka IPS Officer and Six Family Members in Dowry Harassment Case
Bengaluru, Oct 17 : A high-profile case has been registered against a Karnataka-cadre IPS officer and six family members following a detailed complaint of dowry harassment, domestic violence, and cruelty filed by his wife. Police in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, confirmed the registration of the First Information Report (FIR) on Saturday.
The complaint names Shivanshu Rajput, a 2019-batch IPS officer posted in Bengaluru, along with his father, mother, brother, sister-in-law, and two family friends.
The complainant, Dr. Kriti Singh, a Noida-based doctor, lodged the grievance on October 16. In her exhaustive 41-page submission, Dr. Singh alleges she has endured sustained physical and mental abuse and persistent demands for dowry since her marriage to Rajput in December 2021. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old son.
The FIR has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. Dr. Singh alleges her family spent over ₹2 crore on the wedding, but her in-laws continued to press for more dowry. She has also accused the IPS officer of having extramarital relationships and threatening to abandon her.
Bhupendra Kumar, Station In-charge of Sector 126 Police Station, confirmed the investigation is underway, and statements from both the complainant and the accused will be recorded soon. The accused officer and his legal representatives have not yet issued a public statement.
