IMD Warns of Intense Rainfall Across Multiple States; Red Alert for Assam and Meghalaya
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of weather alerts across several states, cautioning the public about heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the coming days.
A red alert—indicating the highest level of warning—has been declared for parts of Assam and Meghalaya, where isolated regions are expected to experience torrential downpours on Saturday. This level of alert signals a potential for severe disruption and requires immediate preparedness and response from authorities and residents.
Meanwhile, an orange alert has been placed for the hilly states of Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland, advising residents to remain vigilant as these areas may see significant rainfall that could lead to localized flooding or landslides.
Several other states are under a yellow alert, which indicates a general caution due to expected rainfall. These states include Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. The IMD has urged citizens in these regions to stay updated on weather developments and take basic precautions to ensure safety.
The monsoon conditions are expected to intensify over the weekend, and the IMD continues to monitor the evolving weather patterns closely.
